International standard ISO/IEC16963
The storage life of archive-level optical discs is one of the most important characteristics of archival-level optical discs. Before that, there was no uniform method for testing the storage life of optical discs. All optical disc manufacturers independently tested the storage life and then marked the storage life on the product at will XX years. This has caused some problems, such as the inconsistency with the actual storage life of the CD-ROM data, which has brought huge losses and troubles to the general consumers, especially the users of the archives department who need to store important data for a long time. Affected by the above situation, the unification and standardization of test methods for calculating the estimated life of optical discs have become a strong objective demand. In April 2008, the International Organization for Standardization formulated and issued ISO/IEC10995 digital recording media information exchange and storage type optical disc long-term data storage life assessment test method standards. And in 2009, a third-party testing organization, Archive Disc Test Center, was specially established for optical disc life test.(Archive CD Test Center). With the continuous development of optical disc recording media, in March 2015, the International Organization for Standardization released the latest international standard ISO/IEC 16963, which added the relevant test methods and standards for Blu-ray discs. In practical applications, the Archival Optical Disc Testing Center conducts optical disc life tests in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 16963 regulations and methods, and awards the ISO certification mark to optical discs whose presumed disc storage life is more than 30 years from the test results. Therefore, users of various units in the archives industry can determine the correct choice based on whether there is an ISO certification mark.
